About Lino
Lino Miele's interest in yoga dates back to the early 1980's. Lino met his guru Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Guruji, in Mysore and the beginning of a long-term teacher- student relationship began.
Lino's passion for the practice and curiosity for truly understanding the vinyasa system led him to research under the guidance of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois'. This resulted in one of the seminal studies of the vinyasa. On Guruji's request, a book was published "Astanga Yoga Book" in 1994.
Sri K. Pattabhi Jois acknowledged Lino for his personal research on the vinyasa method as well as his many years of apprenticeship by giving him the Certificate to teach. (1994).
Lino has regularly returned to study with Guruji in Mysore. In 1996 he completed his second book, on the advanced series A and B, this has yet to be published. The same year, Guruji asked Lino to start giving yoga demonstrations in Europe. Lino started traveling and teaching workshops.
In 1999, Lino produced a video demonstrating the full form of the 1st series to give a visual understanding of the vinyasa system.
Two years later Lino released a second video where Gwendoline Hunt and Lino performed the full form of the intermediate and advanced A series.
In 2008 a video produced by the Astanga School of Rome, in which Lino demonstrates the daily practice of the 1st series the video includes extracts of him teaching.
Over the years, Lino has also produced a number of posters, the first being a tribute to his guru called "A Yogi's Life" (1995), a collage of old photos where every member of the family is represented doing an asana. Sharath Rangaswamy doing the 1st and Intermediate series. In 2007 a poster with Lino himself doing Advanced A.
Lino has established several Astanga Yoga Schools. Helsinki (1997), Rome (2000), Milano (2008), Buenos Aires (2009). Lino visits the schools regularly, holding workshops and summer retreats. The longest workshop however takes place in Lino's centre in Kovalam Beach, here he teaches for two months every year.
Lino has now been touring and teaching for well over a decade, he is loved, respected and renowned for his joyous and uncompromising way of passing on the traditional Astanga Yoga. |
