Class description:

Mysore Class & Mysore Beginner

~ Traditional and authentic one-on-one teaching ~

Take ownership of your practice. Mysore classes offer all levels, from beginners to more experienced practitioners, the most natural, effective and safest way to learn and practice Astanga Yoga. Everyone is taught individually within a group setting. The teacher moves about the room and work with each person individually. They receive a level of one-on-one guidance, hands-on adjustments and personal attention that cannot be offered in a conventionally led class.

As no previous yoga experience is necessary to start, one can take the very first yoga lesson in the Mysore class. This is possible because beginners are introduced to the Astanga sequence little by little; easily memorizing the section of the sequence they have been taught. The teacher then advances students through the Astanga sequence pose-by-pose based on each student's individual abilities. As a result, students learn and practice at their own pace.

The Mysore class environment enables the practitioner to focus on the sound and rhythm of the breath rather than on the voice of the teacher. Practice, therefore, becomes a personal meditation-in-motion that, while physically powerful, produces a deep inner focus.

You are moved and guided further into your practice with the help of the teacher, meeting ones individual pace and personal needs. At the same time both beginners and more seasoned practitioners will receive all the instruction they need and will find themselves breaking through old physical, mental and emotional barriers.

As Mysore classes are not led you can start at any time. That is to say you start and finish your practice at a time that suits you. If you are a beginner then you need an appointment before you come first time.

Mysore class is named after the town in Karnataka southern India where Sri K. Pattabhi Jois taught the practice for over 60 years. The system is taught today in Mysore by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois grandson Sharath Jois and daughter Saraswati Jois at the KPJAYI K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute.

Mysore Beginner

~ One-on-one, one step at a time. Beginners teaching ~

Led Primary

~ Traditional counting ~

On Led Primary the whole first series (primary series) is counted through in Sanskrit, where you follow the same rhythm of movement and breath. In this way the practice is repeated and trained in the rhythm and connection of movement and breath (Vinyasa). This keeps the practice precise and correct.
